Mister Punch is known to have been
entertaining the people of Britain for
335 years, and may have been at it longer.
He is not thought to have been
particularly young when he arrived here
from Italy and some think he started off
in China in the distant mysterious past...
However that may be, he arrived with his
wife (though it was a hundred  years
before she changed her name from Joan
to Judy) and their show was a success.
The show has survived by changing to
meet the demands of the changing
audiences, and characters have come into
the show and gone again when they were
no longer needed.
Our show preserves many of the
traditional routines and jokes, but in an
updated form which avoids the need for
everyone to be bludgeoned to death.
Joey the Clown, who arrived with some
sausages not much more than a century
ago, and the crocodile, who is even
younger, battle and play with the
Policeman, the Baby, Judy and Mister
Punch himself.
There are ladders, hats, handcuffs,
treasure, spades, buckets, bananas and a
magic flower.
Now
that's the way to do it!
Oh, and did I mention the sausages?
